| Pine settee retains original finish. From the Katie Dethloff estate, Cat Spring, Austin County. The family settled the area in 1850, and this piece along with another handmade settee, kitchen table, writing table, large safe, step back cupboard, linen press, 2 beds and trundle bed were still in the original house which started with one log room and then another room with dog trot was added. Katie's aunt lived in the original one room. Katie was 88 in 1986 when the estate and house was sold, and could only remember that the cupboard was made by her grandfather. |
